Fall / Winter Installation

Fall is the best time of the year for installing sod.

Sod can be installed throughout the winter months. It can even be installed onto frozen ground. The grass will root over the winter and be ready for spring.

The only delay to installation during the winter would be if the ground at the farm is frozen solid, preventing harvesting.

Summer Installation Guidelines

It is perfectly fine to install sod during the summer months. By following our instructions, you will be assured of a beautiful lawn. We adjust our harvesting schedule to allow for warm weather, so you have nothing to worry about.

Above 75 degrees, it is important to lay the sod immediately upon delivery. Dampen the ground before you begin. The sod must be watered as you are installing it. Sprits the sod after installing each 10 rolls (or after each big roll). After installation is completed, soak thoroughly.

For the first week: water sod at the full rate (1/2 inch) in the early morning (set automatic sprinklers to  4:00 a.m.) and 1/4 inch at 10:00 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m. Follow the regular watering schedule thereafter.
